What is the True Meaning Behind the Word: Create?

The word create is a verb, defined by Merriam-Webster as “to bring into being; cause to exist.”

What does it truly mean to create?

Similar to an acrostic poem, I further examined each letter of the word. Instead of writing a poetic line for each letter, I chose a word that best captures the meaning behind create. I wrote down the first word that came to mind, without a second thought and this is what I discovered:

CREATE

C - care-free = adj: free from anxiety or responsibility

R - revolutionary = adj: involving or causing a complete or dramatic change

E - energetic = adj: showing or involving great activity

A - authentic = adj: of undisputed origin

T - truthful = adj: (of a person or statement) telling or expressing the truth; honest

E - evolve = vb: develop gradually, especially from a simple to a more complex form

A six letter word and the words I chose were care-free, revolutionary, energetic, authentic, truthful and evolve. All adjectives that best describe the meaning behind create. Except for the last word I chose was a verb, an action word.

Intriguing. Why did I choose all other descriptive words except for the last one? Because I know to create something is a forward motion.

Let’s dissect each word even further into the true meaning behind CREATE.

Care - free: this word triggered a romantic thought of being cooped inside an art studio, where colorful paint cans covered surrounding shelves and a blank canvas stood in the center. I envisioned an artist simply creating and being present, without a care in the world. The constraint of society and its overbearing expectations, show no evidence within this room. The artist can be care-free and paint their own masterpiece.

Revolutionary: currently what is happening in our society (COVID-19 pandemic) has impacted everyone. People were asked to stay home and stay safe. My hope is that everyone took a moment to dive inward while processing an array of emotions and repurposed that energy to design something so revolutionary. When future generations look at works of art from this time, they will know history was made.

Energetic: have you ever felt the energy of an inanimate object? Even when it’s considered “not alive” there is some sort of energy that is radiating from it. I believe this comes from anyone or any business who pours their heart, soul and mind into creating such a thing.

Authentic: on the last snowfall of 2020, I recall an unexpected moment. While exiting my vehicle, I saw a sprinkle of snowflakes which were rather large and beautiful. Upon further inspection, I noticed that the neighboring flakes were all different with varying shapes, sizes and designs. As children, we learn that each snowflake is different but as an adult I finally conceptualized this fact for the first time. Each flake was so breathtaking that I paused just to admire the beauty. Similar to snowflakes, everyone’s creation can be rare and absolutely stunning.

Truthful: putting your art on display for others to view, accompanied with possible criticism, can be very difficult. It takes true courage to share any creation with the world. Bravery is needed to share such an intimate side of yourself. That's why every project is raw and truthful. You can’t hide what your heart is trying to share.

Evolve: every creation can be a work in progress. There will always be room for learning, adapting and developing for each project. It will forever be unique but there will be ways to improve it. Just as time passes, so should the desire to improve that creation.

_______

Reflecting this back to business, what do you create as a business owner? Is it a product, service or even knowledge about a certain topic that you offer? Bigger question, do you think even creating something so unique and different matters within your business?

While diving further into the meaning of each word, I hope this resonated with you. My objective was that you had an “aha” moment and paid particular attention to what you were feeling in that exact instance. Remember that to create is to bring into existence. What can your business bring into existence? The mission behind this creation is to make a deeper connection with your ideal client which will build a loyal community.

Now I challenge you to complete the same exercise by using the outline of an acrostic poem for CREATE. However, personalize each word with your business in mind. I want to know what CREATE means to you. Email me your answers at writer.kwdavis@gmail.com and let’s discuss further. I look forward to hearing your creation!
