Struggling to Find that Creative Mojo that Started Your Entire Business?

Implement the following tips to help rekindle that creative fire. It happens to the best of us. All entrepreneurs, writers, artists, musicians, creators will struggle with creativity from time to time.

So what can you do as a business owner to work through this struggle? The following three tips should help locate that creative spark:

  1. Disconnect from everything

  2. Explore different creative outlets

  3. And if all else fails, walk it out

Disconnect from everything

Unplug from anything that may be consuming too much of your attention.

A few examples of “drain suckers” may include:

  • Social Media

  • TV/Movies

  • Video Games

  • Podcasts

  • Pretty much any form of entertainment that makes one feel a disconnect or inadequate

Don’t get me wrong, I have my usual Friday movie night and social media is an incredible way to connect with others. However, when I feel like my creativity is lacking,  it’s usually a sign of over-consumption.

When this happens, pause all those things that might be stealing your attention.

It’s reassuring to know that creativity will never dissipate. So put a pause on those for now.

Now that we have disconnected from any distractions, time to refocus our attention on another activity that should generate more creativity.

Explore different creative outlets

This may include painting, writing, cooking, sewing, crafting. So pretty much any activity that brings one true joy.

Writing is my jam. Like it completes me similar to PB&J.

When I’m having a bad day, I journal.

When a new topic strikes me, I write a short story.

When I feel inspired, I write that into a blog post.

Writing reminds me that I am a creator

So what other hobby or activity makes you feel this way?

After disconnecting from the resources that drain the creativity, take that time back and turn the attention towards a hobby or activity that truly makes you happy. It doesn’t have to be a creative outlet. But rather focus on something that will get those endorphins (happy hormones) pumping.

Take that extra time and focus on something else for a bit.

When all else fails, walk it out.

Fresh air, movement, and a little alone time can do a business owner wonders.

All creators want to out-pour quality content 24/7. However, this is nearly impossible. One cannot be “on” all the time.

Sure, you can show up daily for at least 8 hours each day to complete the daily tasks of the business but think about the other 16 hours. Everyone needs to eat, exercise, sleep, take care of others, drink enough water, and still be human.

Truth be told, life can be difficult and this may cause the creativity to be stagnant.

Instead of overthinking the process, take a 15-minute walk outdoors.

Not only will this movement benefit your overall health but the fresh air should clean out the cobwebs that could be clogging the brain. Also by taking a step back from the task at hand, should help to put everything back into perspective.

...

The lack of creativity is only temporary. That creative well that has grown the business will return. You just need to take a short break.

Do you feel as if there are no more original ideas? I challenge you to take a break. Go take a walk outdoors and allow the creativity to return tenfold.

I am curious, do you ever run out of creative ideas or innovations for the business? If so, how do you combat this? I’d love to continue this conversation, please email me writerkwdavis@gmail.com, and let’s discuss further. I look forward to our chat!
